HSM is the standard of care at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Hospital, Lancaster General Hospital and Princeton Medical Center. We also studied HSM at two external sites to evaluate reproducibility. Unpublished data from studies at both internal and external sites suggests program results are generalizable to other practice types and settings, with continued high patient compliance, improved outcomes, and reduction in racial disparities in postpartum hypertension care and morbidity.
Most recently, the city of Philadelphia received a Merck Safer Childbirth Cities Initiative grant, which includes funding to implement HSM at all Philadelphia OB hospitals (Jefferson and Einstein). The OB leadership at these hospitals recognizes HSM as an innovative and effective means of caring for women with pregnancy-related hypertension after discharge.
HSM is becoming a national model for reducing the burden of preeclampsia on postpartum maternal morbidity and mortality, with multiple publications and awards over the years. We are striving to scale Heart Safe Motherhood to outside institutions in hopes that we can grant others this impactful program that has saved countless lives.
So far, we have scaled to the following sites:
-Northwestern-
-University of North Carolina-
-Einstein-
-Jefferson-
-Washington University in St. Louis-
-Woman's Hospital-
-Alameda-
-University of South Florida-
